FAQ's

Q.             What’s the difference between a ‘demo’ or an ‘EP’?

A.             A ‘demo’ is something that demonstrates an artists abilities or intentions. Think of a demo as a quick sketch or outline of your work that you can show to give an idea of where your sound is going.

An 'EP' on the other hand is a fully finished short recording of typically three to seven songs. Recorded for the purposes of distribution and public consumption, an ‘EP’ is something you can sell at your gigs, online or at your local record shop.

Before deciding on your budget, it’s important to decide what you want to do with your recording. If you just want to show what you can do and use your recording to help you get gigs than a demo recording is fine.

However, if you want to sell your recording at those gigs, then consider the extra time and effort that goes into an ‘EP’ and budget accordingly.

Q.            What’s involved in the recording process?

A.            The initial set up is the most essential stage of the recording process. Getting drums and other instrument sounds and levels right usually takes up to 1-3 hours depending on whether you are a solo artist or a full band. Rhythm tracks are recorded live.

This may take up to 1-5 takes for each song depending on how well rehearsed you are. Then once we have a solid foundation for your song, vocals and any solos are overdubbed. Once everything is recorded, we’re ready to mix. Depending on whether you are recording a demo or EP, mixing can take anything from 1 hour per song to a whole day, depending on the complexity of the music

Q.           How long does it take to record?

A.           Typically a three to five song Demo would take a day to record and mix. An EP of three to seven songs would take two to three days and an album of approximately 13 songs would take up to 7 to 10 days. But remember, these are estimates only.
